She is the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the indie rock band Florence and the Machine. She rose to fame in the late 2000s with the band’s debut album Lungs (2009), which featured hits like “Dog Days Are Over” and “You’ve Got the Love.” The album topped the UK Albums Chart and earned her critical acclaim, setting the stage for an enduring career.

Her follow-up albums Ceremonials (2011), How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (2015), and High as Hope (2018) further cemented her reputation for blending soulful vocals with baroque pop and gothic imagery. In 2022, she released Dance Fever, an album influenced by choreomania and isolation, which received widespread praise for its introspective themes and ambitious production.

Beyond music, Welch has been involved in fashion, poetry, and social causes. She is known for her distinctive, vintage-inspired aesthetic and often collaborates with designers and artists. Florence is also the founder of the Between Two Books reading club and has published her own poetry and lyric collections.
