Matt Duffer

Matt Dufferis an American writer, director, and producer best known as one half of the creative duo behind Netflix’s global phenomenon Stranger Things. Alongside his twin brother Ross Duffer, he co-created the science-fiction series, which debuted in 2016 and became one of the most influential and commercially successful television shows of the streaming era.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Duffer developed an early interest in filmmaking, drawing inspiration from 1980s pop culture, genre cinema, and the works of filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter. He and his brother began making films at a young age before studying film production at Chapman University in California.

Beyond Stranger Things, Duffer has worked on projects including Wayward Pines, where the twins served as writers and executive producers. Known for his focus on character-driven storytelling and nostalgic genre blending, Matt Duffer has played a central role in shaping modern serialized sci-fi television and expanding Netflix’s original programming identity.
